Lansing Model Train Club Hosts Annual Winter Open House

Lansing, Mich. – Train enthusiasts gathered on Sunday, February 23, for the Lansing Model Train Club’s Annual Winter Open House, an event that allowed visitors to witness the intricate world of model trains in action. The open house, which is held every year, showcases the club’s impressive H-O scale layout, featuring everything from bustling cities and industrial scenes to scenic rolling countrysides and towering mountains.

Founded in 1953, the Lansing Model Train Club is a nonprofit organization made up of approximately 50 members. The club’s mission is to promote and preserve the hobby of model railroading while providing a space for local enthusiasts to connect and share their passion.

The open house serves as a rare opportunity for the public to explore this hidden gem in the Lansing area, as many visitors are surprised to learn about the club’s existence. Michael Ftezell, the recording secretary of the club, emphasized the importance of the open house for community engagement.

“I like meeting new people who have never been to our club before,” Ftezell said. “Once they’re here, they realize this is a real hidden gem in Lansing. Thanks to the news coverage, we get a lot of people coming out to see what this is all about. We’re hopeful this will also help us attract new members.”

The event not only offers a chance to explore the detailed model landscapes but also serves as preparation for the club’s upcoming annual train show, which is scheduled for November 9. The show will offer an even larger display of model trains and attract visitors from across the region.

For many attendees, the Winter Open House is just the beginning of a deeper connection to the world of model trains. It provides both seasoned model railroaders and newcomers a chance to share in the hobby, learn from one another, and experience firsthand the time and effort that goes into creating these miniature worlds.

As the Lansing Model Train Club continues to thrive, events like the Winter Open House will remain essential in sharing the joy of model railroading with the community.
