Lansing activates Code Blue cold weather emergency plan

Lansing, MI – The City of Lansing has activated its Code Blue cold weather emergency plan for January 2026 due to forecasted extremely cold overnight conditions, according to the Lansing Fire Department.

City officials said the plan will remain in effect until further notice. During this time, local shelters will extend operating hours and temporarily increase capacity.

The Letts Community Center will serve as an overnight warming center from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Under the Code Blue plan, the Lansing Fire Department and Lansing Police Department are authorized to transport individuals in need to local shelters.

The CATA bus system will also provide free rides to warming centers and shelters.

Residents seeking additional social service resources are encouraged to call 211. City officials urged residents to take advantage of available resources and monitor the city’s website for updates as cold conditions continue.
