Lansing, MI – A shooting incident in Leoni Township, near Jackson, Michigan, left a woman injured Thursday evening after an argument with a DoorDash driver escalated.
The Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety responded to the scene on the 200 block of S. Rosewood Avenue shortly after 5 p.m., where they located the victim, who had sustained a gunshot wound.
The altercation began when the customer, who had ordered Wendy’s, instructed the driver to park in a driveway instead of a muddy area near her yard. The driver, however, chose to park in the muddy spot, prompting the customer to confront her.
According to the victim, she warned the driver that she would be on her own if the car got stuck in the mud. The situation quickly escalated when the DoorDash driver became upset and left, allegedly driving through a neighbor’s yard, damaging the lawn in the process. The customer’s boyfriend, in an attempt to get photographic evidence of the incident, pursued the driver down the road.
The driver, reportedly angry, turned around and returned to the scene, where she was seen waving a gun. The customer then walked outside to also take photos, and she reportedly said, “I don’t care if you shoot me.” Moments later, she slipped on the mud and was shot in her lower side. Neither the victim nor her boyfriend saw the driver shoot, but both indicated that the woman had a handgun in her possession at the time.
The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and doctors determined that the bullet did not hit any vital organs.
The Blackman-Leoni Township Public Safety Department has identified a person of interest in the case and is working to locate the suspect. Investigators are continuing their efforts to piece together the details of the altercation that led to the shooting.
Authorities have emphasized the seriousness of the incident, which highlights the potential dangers that can arise during tense confrontations involving delivery drivers and customers.
The investigation remains ongoing, with police urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
