Dwight Rich School of the Arts Implements Metal Detectors Following Weapon Discovery

LANSING, Mich. — In response to the recent discovery of a disassembled, unloaded weapon on campus, Dwight Rich School of the Arts will begin using metal detectors and handheld wands at all student entrances.

The school notified parents in a message, announcing that the security measures will take effect when students return from the holiday weekend on May 27. These steps are part of the school’s effort to enhance safety and prevent potentially dangerous items from entering the building.

Officials at Dwight Rich emphasized their commitment to maintaining a secure environment for students and staff while minimizing disruptions to the educational experience.

This move follows increased attention nationwide on school safety protocols amid concerns about weapons on school grounds.
