LANSING, Mich. — A fire at Schram Auto Parts, located south of Holt, prompted road closures and a significant emergency response Thursday afternoon. The blaze, which started around 3 p.m., occurred in a warehouse situated toward the back of the property, away from the main building. The warehouse contained highly flammable materials such as oil, batteries, and antifreeze, which contributed to the intensity of the fire.
According to officials, the fire led to several explosions, caused by the batteries catching fire. Delhi Township’s assistant fire chief described the blasts as “shooting all over the place,” heightening concerns for nearby residents and emergency responders. Despite the severity of the fire, authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported.
At the time of the fire, one person was inside the warehouse but managed to evacuate immediately. Firefighters successfully extinguished the flames by 6 p.m., bringing the situation under control.
The fire led to the closure of Cedar Street between Edgar Road and Harper Road, as well as Edgar Road between Cedar Street and Harper Road, starting at 2:43 p.m. Authorities advised residents to avoid the area as emergency crews worked to contain the fire. By 4:13 p.m., traffic began flowing again, and both Cedar Street and Edgar Road were fully reopened by 5:40 p.m. and 6:13 p.m., respectively.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire, but the quick response from local fire departments helped prevent any injuries or further damage. Residents in the area are urged to stay informed as the investigation progresses.
