HOLT, Mich. — A heavy police presence was observed on Tollard Avenue in Holt on Sunday, February 9, following reports of a shots-fired incident. The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call at 3 p.m. after reports that a 44-year-old male was having a mental health crisis.
According to authorities, the man discharged a firearm into the air outside his home, prompting a response from law enforcement. Upon arrival, officers learned that the individual had entered his home with the firearm while family members remained inside. Fortunately, the family members were able to safely leave the residence without injury.
The situation prompted a significant police presence as officers worked to de-escalate the situation. After approximately an hour and a half, authorities were able to safely remove the firearm from the individual’s possession, without any further harm.
No injuries were reported, and the male was not arrested. The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the incident was related to a mental health crisis rather than a criminal act, and there was no ongoing threat to the community. Authorities continue to handle the matter with an emphasis on mental health support.
