The Abolition of the Michigan Diaper Tax Was Defeated in the House of Representatives

The Michigan state House was unable to approve legislation repealing the sales tax on diapers due to a lack of votes.

Following the removal of the tampon tax last year, legislation to eliminate the sales tax on diapers for adults and children was introduced. However, a vote to pass the proposals was defeated on Tuesday.

Rep. Julie Alexander, the bill’s sponsor, said after the vote that the result disappointed Michigan families who will have to pay more for essential hygiene supplies.
