OLIVE TWP.– A man has been charged with attempted murder, hindering police, and other offenses after being injured while exchanging gunfire with state troopers last week at his home near St. Johns.

According to Michigan State Police, Corey Michael Galesk, 34, was discharged from a hospital on Saturday and transferred to the Clinton County Jail.

During an arraignment hearing in Clinton County District Court on Monday, a judge set a $4 million cash bond for Galesk, according to court documents.

According to state police, the gunfire started just after 2 p.m. Thursday at Galesk’s home in the 6000 block of Business U.S. 127, where members of the First District Fugitive Team and the Emergency Support Team had gone to arrest him on a felony warrant.

According to police, bullets were fired as troopers made contact. State police said the gunman was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after troopers returned fire, wounding him. There were no troops hurt.

In the meantime, four troopers have been placed on administrative leave until the outcome of the investigation.

According to court records, Galesk, whose name was not released until Monday, is charged with ten counts of assault with intent to murder and felony firearm possession, eight counts of assaulting or obstructing police, and two counts of possession with intent to deliver marijuana and maintaining a drug house.

According to police, a 34-year-old woman who also resides at the property was charged with eight counts of impeding officers and two charges each of possession with intent to supply marijuana and maintain a drug house on Monday. They reported a $75,000 cash bond had been posted for her.

It’s unknown whether Galesk and the woman have legal counsel. Hearings to determine whether they should face the charges have been tentatively scheduled for April 7.
