Ingham County Residents Warned About Phone Scam Targeting Victims

Lansing, MI – Ingham County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to a new phone scam that has been circulating across the county. The scam involves a caller impersonating law enforcement officers and using fear tactics to convince people to hand over their money.

According to a post on the Sheriff’s official Facebook page, the scammer is claiming to be Sgt. Doyle, Sgt. Jackson, or Sgt. Doerr of the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office. The caller may also drop the name of Judge Stokes to lend credibility to the story. The scammer warns victims that they have a warrant out for their arrest and insists that the only way to avoid immediate arrest is to pay a fine by purchasing gift cards and sharing the card numbers with them.

The Sheriff’s Office has made it clear that such calls are fraudulent, stating that law enforcement will never ask for money over the phone. Residents are strongly advised to hang up on any caller making such claims.

Sheriff’s officials urge everyone to be vigilant and report any suspicious calls to the authorities. This warning comes as the Sheriff’s Office works to protect the community from becoming victims of scams that exploit fear and confusion.

For more information on how to recognize and report scams, residents are encouraged to visit the Ingham County Sheriff’s website or contact local law enforcement.
