Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Sergeant Stops Wrong-Way Driver on US-131

LANSING, Mich. — A sergeant from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office successfully stopped a wrong-way driver on US-131 early Wednesday morning, preventing a potentially dangerous situation.

At approximately 1:01 a.m., the sergeant observed a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the highway near West D Ave. Recognizing the imminent danger, the sergeant positioned their vehicle ahead of the wrong-way driver in an attempt to prevent a collision.

When the driver failed to stop despite the use of emergency lights, the sergeant took swift action by deploying road spikes. The driver, unable to continue, eventually pulled over to the side of the road, where law enforcement was able to safely apprehend the individual.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and drug possession. They are currently being held in the Kalamazoo County Jail and are awaiting arraignment.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the incident. The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office commended the sergeant’s quick thinking and decisive actions in handling the dangerous situation.
