Kalamazoo Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase in Calhoun County

MARTHA TOWNSHIP, MI — A Kalamazoo man was arrested early Saturday morning following a high-speed chase that reached speeds of over 150 mph on I-94.

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, around 2:40 a.m., a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle traveling westbound on I-94 near Albion for speeding. The vehicle was reportedly traveling at speeds exceeding 126 mph when the deputy attempted the traffic stop.

However, the driver, later identified as an 18-year-old Kalamazoo man, refused to pull over and instead accelerated, prompting a pursuit that quickly escalated. The chase continued on I-94 and reached speeds above 150 mph before the driver eventually veered off onto 24 Mile Road near H Drive N in Marengo Township, where he was apprehended by deputies.

Upon arrest, deputies discovered that the driver was in possession of a fraudulent and fictitious driver’s license. As a result, he was taken into custody and booked into the Calhoun County Jail. The suspect faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges in connection with the incident, including charges related to reckless driving and the use of a fake driver’s license.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the chase is still under investigation, and additional details may emerge as authorities continue to piece together the events of the early morning hours.

This high-speed pursuit underscores the dangers of reckless driving, and authorities continue to urge drivers to obey traffic laws and avoid putting others at risk.

The suspect remains in custody as the investigation progresses.
