Lansing, MI – As the clock ticks down to 2024, local bars in Lansing, Michigan, are gearing up for a bustling New Year’s Eve celebration. Corey’s Bar, a long-standing family-owned establishment, is expecting a large crowd as it rings in the new year with a special surf and turf dinner and a DJ performance. The bar, which has been in the Corey family since the 1970s, is known for its small-town charm and loyal clientele, including regulars like Pamela Fetherston, who describes it as a “great family bar.”
“We’re expecting a big crowd,” said Kyle Corey, the bar’s manager. “The reservations have already been pouring in, and we’re ready for a fun night.”
For many, New Year’s Eve is a time to let loose and celebrate, but authorities and bar staff are also urging revelers to make responsible choices when it comes to alcohol consumption and getting home safely. Lansing Police Chief Robert Backus stressed the importance of planning ahead, particularly for those who will be drinking.
“It’s always important to have a plan,” said Chief Backus. “If you’re going to be drinking, make sure you know how you’re getting home. Don’t risk driving under the influence.”
Chief Backus also advised those who aren’t drinking to stay alert on the roads, especially during the high-traffic hours between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m., when intoxicated drivers are more prevalent.
Bar staff, like Corey, are also encouraging customers to take advantage of ride-sharing services like Uber, which have made getting home safer and more convenient.
“Thank God for Uber and all that stuff now because back when I first started, there was none of that,” Corey said. “Hopefully, people are utilizing it to stay safe.”
As the city prepares for a night of celebration, local authorities and businesses are working together to ensure that everyone can enjoy the festivities responsibly and safely.
