Lansing Police Lieutenant Faces Criminal Charges, Placed on Unpaid Leave

LANSING, Mich. – A Lansing Police Lieutenant, Ryan Wilcox, who has been on paid administrative leave for nearly a year, is now facing criminal charges and has been placed on unpaid leave, according to an announcement from the Lansing Police Department (LPD).

Since May 30, 2024, Wilcox had been under investigation for allegations of fraud, which prompted the Michigan State Police to launch a thorough inquiry into the matter. Following the investigation, criminal charges were brought against him. Wilcox is now facing one count of False Pretenses with Intent to Defraud in Jackson County, as confirmed by LPD Chief Rob Backus.

In a statement, Chief Backus expressed his concern over the allegations, emphasizing the importance of integrity and public trust within the department. “Integrity and public trust are the foundation upon which the Lansing Police Department has been built,” Backus said. “These allegations are deeply disturbing and do not reflect the values of this department or the standards we uphold. We remain committed to maintaining the trust of our community through transparency and accountability.”

As of now, Wilcox has been placed on unpaid leave while the legal process unfolds. His court date is scheduled for March 4, when he will appear for a probable cause hearing.

The case continues to unfold as the department pledges to uphold the principles of transparency and accountability while addressing the situation.
