Lansing, MI – The Lansing Police Department highlighted the impact of its Violent Crime Initiative (VCI) Team, a multi-jurisdictional unit focused on reducing violent crime in the Greater Lansing area. Since 2021, the team has seized more than 700 illegal firearms, preventing them from being used in criminal activity.
The VCI Team concentrates on apprehending violent offenders and removing illegal firearms from the streets, contributing to a steady decline in non-fatal shootings and homicides in Lansing over the past five years.
Serving on the team is a full-time assignment, open to officers with at least two years of service. Selected members receive advanced training to operate at the highest level of violent crime enforcement.
The department praised the VCI officers as among the most skilled in law enforcement and recognized their dedication to keeping the community safe.
