LANSING, Mich. — Thor, a Michigan State Police K-9 officer, is back home and recovering after being rushed to a veterinary clinic last Friday following ingestion of poison during an active search.
Thor was assisting deputies responding to a breaking-and-entering call in Lapeer County when the incident occurred. While searching a barn, the dog ingested a poisonous substance. Authorities confirmed that narcotics were not involved in this case.
Emergency treatment was first administered at a local veterinarian’s office before Thor was transferred to the Michigan State University Veterinary Clinic, a facility recognized as one of the top veterinary centers in the state. Thor was held overnight for observation.
On Monday, the Michigan State Police announced via Twitter that Thor had returned home and was in stable condition, continuing his recovery alongside his handler.
This is not the first time Thor has faced such a perilous situation. Approximately six months ago, in December, Thor was treated by MSU veterinarians after exposure to illicit drugs during a search in Flint. During that incident, tests revealed the presence of opioids, cocaine, and THC in his system. After treatment, Thor fully recovered.
The resilience and dedication of K-9 officers like Thor highlight the risks these animals face in the line of duty while aiding law enforcement efforts.
