Michigan State Police Participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Lansing, MI – Michigan State Police (MSP) will take part in the nationwide initiative, National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, on Saturday, April 26, 2025. This initiative aims to provide residents with a safe, anonymous way to dispose of expired, unused, or unwanted prescription medications.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at all 31 MSP posts across Michigan. The program has been designed to help reduce the potential for prescription drug misuse, as well as protect the environment by ensuring that medications are properly disposed of.

MSP officials stress that all types of prescription pills will be accepted and safely destroyed. However, the program will not accept liquids, inhalers, patches, or syringes. Participants are encouraged to drop off their expired or unused prescription pills with no questions asked.

For those unable to attend on National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, MSP offers an ongoing solution. Individuals can anonymously surrender prescription drugs at any Michigan State Police post during regular business hours—Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding holidays.

The initiative is part of a larger, nationwide effort led by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), which aims to prevent prescription drug abuse and promote the proper disposal of medications. To find a Take Back Day collection site by county, city, or state, residents can visit DEA.gov.

This community outreach program continues to be a valuable resource for those looking to safely dispose of their prescription medications and prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.
