Michigan Teen Arrested for Allegedly Setting Fire to Ex’s Home

Grand Rapids, MI – An 18-year-old from northern Michigan has been arrested after allegedly setting fire to the home of his ex-girlfriend’s family, leading to multiple criminal charges, including attempted murder. The incident occurred early Sunday morning, November 24, when the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a house fire around 3:30 a.m.

At the time of the fire, four people were inside the residence. Fortunately, all of them managed to escape without injury. Investigators revealed that a young child had woken up earlier in the night, reporting hearing strange noises, but after a brief check, the adults returned to bed. Several hours later, the same child alerted the household to the fire.

According to the sheriff’s office, while evacuating the burning home, a suspect was seen fleeing the scene. Authorities soon identified the suspect as 18-year-old Cameron Spencer, the former boyfriend of one of the home’s occupants. After speaking with deputies from the Antrim County Sheriff’s Office, Spencer was taken into custody for questioning.

Spencer was formally arraigned on Tuesday, facing multiple serious charges: four counts of attempted murder, one count of second-degree arson, one count of first-degree home invasion, and two counts of malicious destruction of property.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities continuing to gather evidence related to the incident. Spencer remains in custody, pending further legal proceedings.
