Multiple Crashes on I-496 and US-127 in Lansing and East Lansing Due to Poor Weather

LANSING, Mich. — A series of crashes have been reported on I-496 and US-127 in Lansing and East Lansing this afternoon, likely caused by poor weather conditions. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), all lanes are currently blocked on westbound I-496 at Exit 7 near Pennsivlyana Ave.

In addition to the I-496 blockage, multiple lanes have been shut down on northbound US-127 following an incident near Kalamazoo St/Michigan Ave. Emergency crews, including tow trucks, are on-site to manage the situation and clear the wreckage.

One of the crashes involved a salt truck, which collided with the median on US-127 at Harper Rd. between Lansing and Mason. The incident occurred around 11:40 a.m., with additional crashes reported at approximately 12:10 p.m. and 12:40 p.m.

MDOT has advised drivers to avoid the area, as emergency responders continue to work at the scene. Motorists are urged to find alternate routes while cleanup and repairs take place.
