LANSING, Mich. — A stolen vehicle led to a high-speed police chase Wednesday night, culminating in two separate crashes that injured several individuals, including a deputy. Authorities are continuing their search for the driver involved.
According to the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 8:15 p.m. when a deputy noticed a blue 2016 Hyundai Sonata with a smashed rear window near Richard Ave and W Saginaw St. After running the vehicle’s license plate, the deputy learned that the car had been reported stolen early Tuesday morning in Delta Township.
The deputy attempted to stop the car, prompting the driver to flee. During the pursuit, police said the driver deliberately collided with a patrol vehicle, injuring the deputy, who sustained injuries to the back and head. The chase eventually ended at the intersection of W Saginaw St. and Bon Air St., where the Sonata crashed into another vehicle, injuring the occupants inside.
Following the crash, the driver exited the stolen vehicle and fled on foot. Authorities describe the suspect as a man approximately 5’8″ tall, weighing around 170 pounds. He was last seen near W Genesee St. and Bon Air Rd., wearing an all-black outfit with white stripes on the right leg and carrying a backpack.
Responding agencies, including the Lansing Police Department, Eaton County Sheriff’s Office, Delta Township Fire Department, and Lansing Township Fire Department, were on site to assist. Authorities interviewed bystanders and deployed K-9 units to search for the suspect. Additionally, drones were used in an attempt to locate the suspect, though these efforts proved unsuccessful.
The Eaton County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities urge anyone who may have witnessed the events or has information about the suspect’s whereabouts to contact them.
As of now, the search for the driver continues, and authorities are working diligently to gather more information. Updates will be provided as more details become available.
