Leslie, Mich. — Saved by Zade, a local cat rescue organization, is reaching out to the community for help after severe storms caused significant damage to its new facility in Leslie on Sunday. The storm, which brought strong winds and heavy rain, ripped off much of the roof of the building, leaving the rescue in a difficult situation.
Volunteers, many of whom were soaked from their efforts, worked quickly to move all the cats to safer areas within the facility. Despite the chaos, no animals were harmed, and all were safely relocated away from the danger of the storm’s aftermath. The facility, which was still in the process of being renovated into a clinic for the rescue, took a major blow when the roof was torn off, causing leaks and exposing the building to further damage.
The damage has left Saved by Zade with a significant challenge. The organization had been working on the renovation project with a limited budget, and now, with the roof compromised, additional repairs are necessary. A contractor was brought in to tarp the roof temporarily, but volunteers are still uncertain about the full extent of the damage. They are waiting for further assessments and repairs to determine the next steps.
Jodi Schrader, a representative of the organization, shared her concerns: “I’m assuming that the roofers don’t do this for free, and yes, we do have insurance. We’re looking at what that coverage might be, but I guess just keep us in your thoughts and prayers. There’s definitely going to be some challenges, but you know, I’m not afraid to ask for things and ask questions and reach out.”
As the organization grapples with the unexpected setback, they are calling on the community for support. Financial donations and resources to help with repairs will be critical in the coming weeks as the rescue works to restore the facility and continue their mission of saving and caring for cats in need.
For those looking to assist, Saved by Zade is expected to provide more details on how the public can help, whether through donations or other means. Volunteers and supporters alike are encouraged to keep the rescue in their thoughts as they navigate this difficult situation.
