LANSING, MI — A group of eight American Red Cross volunteers from Michigan is heading to southern California to assist with ongoing disaster relief efforts in the region. The volunteers, part of the Red Cross Michigan Region, will play a key role in providing crucial support to those affected by the disaster.
According to the American Red Cross Michigan Region, four of the volunteers will travel to southern California to help with emergency shelter operations, assist in the distribution of essential equipment, and support the reunification of families separated during the chaos. The remaining four volunteers will assist virtually, focusing on family reunification efforts through remote channels.
In a statement, Latoysa “Toy” Rooks, the Regional Disaster Officer for the Red Cross Michigan Region, emphasized the organization’s commitment to providing relief. “We are prepared to commit additional resources should the need arise, while still meeting the needs of our Michigan communities,” Rooks said.
These volunteers will join a larger contingent of more than 300 Red Cross disaster workers already on the ground in southern California, where the American Red Cross is responding to the aftermath of the disaster. The organization continues to provide shelter, food, and critical services to those impacted by the event.
The Michigan team’s deployment underscores the Red Cross’s ongoing mission to assist both local communities and those in other regions facing emergencies. Volunteers and resources from across the country are mobilized to ensure a coordinated response to large-scale disasters.
