Lansing, Mich. — A Detroit-area man was killed in a weather-related crash early Saturday morning on Interstate 94 in Jackson County. Authorities reported that the incident occurred around 5 a.m. near Mt. Hope Road in Grass Lake Township.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call regarding a jackknifed semi-truck on the westbound lanes of I-94, which was the result of hazardous weather conditions. Shortly after the initial report, deputies were informed that the driver of a 2019 Chevy Silverado had collided with the semi-truck.
The driver of the Silverado, later identified as James Bevins, 75, of Taylor, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff’s officials have stated that neither speed nor alcohol were contributing factors to the fatal crash. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
This tragic accident serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by inclement weather conditions on the roads, especially in the early hours when visibility and traction may be reduced.
