LANSING, Mich. — Deputies with the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office successfully rescued a stolen dog early this morning and apprehended the suspected thief.
According to a press release from the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 2:00 a.m. when deputies were dispatched to Cedar Street and Holt Road in Delhi Township in response to a report of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle’s owner informed deputies that his dog, Moose, was inside the vehicle at the time it was taken.
After hours of investigation, authorities were able to identify a suspect and locate the abandoned vehicle later that morning at approximately 9:00 a.m. on Cedar Street and College Road. Deputies continued their search and, at around 11:00 a.m., arrested the 26-year-old male suspect from Mason on the 1600 block of North College Road.
Moose was found in good health and safely returned to his owner. “The dog was in good health and was reunited with a very grateful owner,” the Sheriff’s Office stated in their release.
The suspect was taken into custody and lodged at the Ingham County Jail. He now faces potential charges for both vehicle theft and dog theft. Authorities have not yet disclosed additional details about the suspect’s background or the circumstances surrounding the theft.
