LANSING, Mich. — A high-speed police pursuit involving five individuals, including four juveniles, ended in a dramatic crash Tuesday afternoon in Lansing. The incident, which started in Livingston County, resulted in multiple vehicle collisions and culminated in the arrest of one adult and the apprehension of several teenagers.
According to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to pull over a stolen 2020 black BMW X5 around 4:30 p.m. The driver refused to stop, triggering a chase on I-96 that extended into Brighton. The pursuit then led to a dead-end street, where deputies once again attempted to stop the vehicle. However, the driver struck a patrol car and continued fleeing, now heading westbound on I-96.
Deputies deployed stop sticks in an effort to disable the vehicle, but they were unsuccessful. As the chase continued through Livingston County, the suspect struck two other vehicles on the interstate before entering Ingham County. The pursuit eventually ended in Lansing near Jolly Rd and Cedar St, when the BMW crashed into several other vehicles.
Following the crash, five individuals, including the driver, fled on foot. Deputies quickly initiated a search and were able to locate the suspects. Authorities identified the driver as a 19-year-old man from Lansing, who was arrested and booked into the Livingston County Jail.
The remaining four occupants of the vehicle, aged 15, 16, 17, and 18, were all minors. One of the juveniles had an outstanding juvenile apprehension order and was taken to a juvenile facility in Ingham County. The other minors were released into the custody of their parents. The 18-year-old occupant, who was found to be in violation of bond conditions from a separate court case, was also taken into custody and lodged at the Livingston County Jail.
The chase caused significant disruptions, with multiple vehicles involved in crashes, but no serious injuries were reported. Authorities continue to investigate the events leading up to the incident and are working to determine any further charges that may be applicable.
