LANSING, Mich. — A Michigan State Police (MSP) patrol vehicle was involved in a separate crash while responding to an earlier accident on US-127 Thursday morning.
At approximately 10:45 a.m., an MSP Motor Carrier Officer was assisting with traffic control following a crash on southbound US-127 near Covert Rd in Leslie Township. The patrol vehicle had been parked on the shoulder of the road, with its emergency lights activated to warn oncoming traffic of the ongoing situation.
According to MSP, a driver of a white Chevrolet van, who was attempting to change lanes, lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road. The van then crashed into the MSP patrol vehicle.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the crash involving the patrol vehicle. The driver of the van, however, was assessed at the scene, and further details on their condition were not immediately available.
The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that emergency responders face when operating on busy roadways, especially in areas where traffic control is being managed. Michigan State Police continue to urge drivers to exercise caution and slow down when approaching active emergency scenes.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
