Lansing, MI — Three men were arrested on Sunday following a dramatic high-speed chase that ended with a crash on the highway. The incident began when deputies from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department attempted to stop a car reported stolen out of East Lansing.
According to a statement from the sheriff’s department, deputies tried to pull over the vehicle on Grand River Avenue in Brighton, but the driver fled, leading law enforcement on a pursuit. The vehicle sped onto the highway in an attempt to evade officers. Deputies deployed stop sticks to puncture the car’s tires, but the driver maneuvered the vehicle onto the shoulder of the highway to avoid them.
However, the driver ultimately lost control and crashed into a concrete support beneath an overpass. All three occupants of the vehicle were arrested without further incident.
The driver of the stolen car, Jornelius Brown, 24, of Lansing, now faces multiple charges, including fleeing and eluding police, possession of a stolen vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, and operating while intoxicated. Two other men, Sargen Wawaye, 20, and Kilson Wawaye, 19, both of Lansing, were arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Department has not released additional details regarding the investigation. The three men are expected to face formal charges and court proceedings in the coming weeks.
