ODESSA TOWNSHIP, MI – A head-on collision on Saturday evening in Odessa Township is believed to have been influenced by hazardous weather and alcohol, according to the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred around 7:45 p.m. on Jordan Lake Road near Musgrove Highway. Deputies reported that a Dodge Nitro and a Saturn Ion were involved in the collision, which resulted in significant damage to both vehicles.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the driver of the Saturn Ion, a man from Lake Odessa, crossed the centerline of the road before the collision. The incident is thought to have been exacerbated by snowfall, which likely contributed to poor driving conditions, along with alcohol consumption.
Both drivers were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The identities of the individuals have not been released, but authorities have confirmed that both are expected to recover.
The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident. Authorities are reminding drivers to exercise caution during winter conditions, especially when alcohol may be a factor in the crash.
