Two Men Accused of Attempting Car Theft in Lansing, One Arrested After High-Speed Chase

Lansing, MI – Two men were accused of attempting to steal a vehicle early Thursday morning in Lansing, Michigan. Michigan State Police apprehended one suspect after a dramatic pursuit, while the second suspect remains at large.

The incident began around 3:00 AM when police were called to the CN Railroad Distribution Center, located off Davis Highway. Security footage showed two individuals crawling under the fence to enter the facility in an apparent attempt to steal a vehicle. However, by the time Michigan State Police arrived at the scene, the suspects had already fled.

As law enforcement officers canvassed the area in search of the suspects, they spotted two dark-colored Jeeps leaving the vicinity near Billwood Highway and Oak Highway. When troopers attempted to stop the vehicles, one of the Jeeps abruptly turned off its headlights and sped away at a high rate of speed.

The suspect’s attempt to evade police was short-lived, as the icy road conditions proved too much for the driver. The Jeep crashed into a house on Oak Highway, and the driver fled on foot into a nearby wooded area. Michigan State Police quickly set up a perimeter and, after a brief search, apprehended a 24-year-old man from Detroit near Davis Highway and I-69.

The stolen Jeep was later traced back to Detroit, where it had been reported missing. The arrested man, whose identity has not been released, faces multiple charges, including fleeing from police, driving a stolen vehicle, and driving on a suspended license. He is currently being held in custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.

The second suspect, believed to have been driving the second Jeep, remains on the run. Michigan State Police continue to investigate the incident and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

The early morning car theft attempt highlights not only the dangers of fleeing from law enforcement but also the risks posed by stolen vehicles. Police remind the public that attempting to elude law enforcement can result in severe consequences, both legally and in terms of public safety.
