State shuts down three bars, issues fines to others for violating COVID-19 restrictions

The Michigan Liquor Control Commission is taking action against six bars and restaurants for violating the Department of Health and Human Services ban on indoor dining. That includes revoking the liquor licenses for three of the businesses.

The liquor licenses were suspended for Jimmy’s Roadhouse in Newaygo, Brew Works in Fremont, and The Meeting Place LLC in Fenton.

The MDHHS issued citations with additional penalties of up to $1,000 per day for three other businesses in Calumet, Lapeer, and Sandusky, in addition to the bar in Fenton.

For the businesses with liquor licenses, state officials say the violations included allowing non-residential, in-person gatherings, providing in-person dining,
failure to require face coverings for staff and patrons, and failure to prohibit patrons from congregating.

Those businesses have an opportunity to dispute the violations during a scheduled Friday, December 4 virtual Zoom hearing.
